Having a sick liver slows you down, and makes protein hard to process. Here’s how you can heal your liver with bone broth. If you are having high liver enzymes, swelling, jaundice, fatigue, nausea, and body aches – you need some nourishment. Not getting the nutrition you need leads to hepatic encephalopathy, or brain fog. The easiest thing to do is cook a pot of soup. With a protein that heals every cell in your body, and is easy on your liver, it will have you feeling better in no time. You can use a special ingredient to heal your liver with bone broth.

Karen’s Soup

Ingredients

Some chopped beef or chicken (optional since broth is protein rich)

3 C no or low sodium bone broth

4 C diced potatoes

1 C sliced carrots

1 C chopped celery

1/2 C chopped onion

Parsley flakes

Other herbs if desired

If you like, add a cut up chicken breast or some beef stew pieces for more flavor and protein. Next, I chop all the vegetables into a large pot or pan. You can also use a crock pot if you’re not in the mood to babysit the level of liquid all day. Buy the little bags of carrots and the little microwave potatoes found in the produce section to make it simple. Cover it with broth, sprinkle some herbs, and let it simmer. Soon you’ll sip some soup that will heal your liver with bone broth and veggies.

A trick I use a lot is to buy bone broth. It is a little more expensive, but has collagen and I feel like it is a short cut to cellular healing.

If the broth does not cover the veggies, add enough water or additional liquid to cover it, plus an inch or two.

I crank the stove up and bring it to a rolling boil. Then I reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 ½ hours on the stove top. In the crock pot, put it on high and let it go all day if you want.

High in nutrition such as iron, vitamins A and K, fatty acids, selenium, zinc, and manganese, bone broth is packed full for the price.

Make it easy on yourself

Many people make their own bone broth. For years, stopping by the butcher for bones was easy. They were practically a giveaway. Now that it has become a popular way to find nutrition – it is not easy to find cheap bones. I have friends who cook them on the stove top, and others do an overnight oven method. My grandma cooked the carcass of the turkey overnight and saved the broth in jars. Smart lady.

Me? I watch for sales at the grocery store.

It’s a perfect time of year for a nice pot of soup. The house will smell wonderful. Your body will be nourished, and don’t forget the leftovers. YES!   1. Karen, thanks for the info on bone broth. I am one of the 20% of people that get HCV that our bodies successfully fight off the virus. 43 years and my liver has no damage. My doctors have insisted that i get the cure anyway so am on my first bottle of Epclusa. I will let you know in March if my viral load is gone. I will say I never though I would see a cure for it in my lifetime. Anyway, my challenges with my body is arthritis. So sounds like the broth will help with this.

      I recently heard a doctor speak about how Hep C is the ONLY virus in the world with a certain cure. I’m like you and find it to be incredibly awesome that we can live Hep C free.

      I’m working on arthritis type stuff too. Bone and joint pain can be a lasting side effect of Hepatitis C. I believe there are turn arounds and am constantly seeking to be more pain free. I hope you’ll forgive my tardiness and keep me posted as you clear the virus.

      Good question! I actually use both. The bone broth is kind of a basic for a lot of my meals. I also use collagen peptides in my protein shakes. There are some good brands out there. Just be sure to avoid a proprietary blend, meaning they may put some herbs and supplements in fine print.
