  1. Hi there! This is my first visit to your site. Found it through mdjunction.com, of which I am a member, and I’m thankful it was presented to me! Before I forget (I have HE, but it’s been mild compared to when I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago. Stage 4 cirrhosis. Meld high was 18, now under 8 somehow). Sorry—-I have typed and deleted and retyped for 20 minutes, and rambled far too long. So, before I forget: Do you have nutrition advice for stage 4 cirrhosis PLUS Gastroparesis? So many conflicts in the two different diets, Just got in with a dietician, but lactulose doesn’t work as well/often. I have good days and bad, but wonder if a suitable diet would make many more good ones happen?
I pray you are feeling better than ever before. Thank you for what you do❤️✌🏽

    1. Hay girl! I still get over to MDJunction to say hi sometimes. It sounds like you’ve got a lot going on, much like I did. Super glad that you are looking for positive vibes to get you through this ordeal.

I’m going to google gastroparesis right now and then type some more. I can almost tell just by the sound of the word… Well dang. So the muscles in your tummy don’t work well and slows digestion. It’s hard enough having liver disease, poor you, wondering why does there have to be complications?

It looks like all the meds that help with it are not that suitable for liver disease. Low sugar diet is going to be your friend. Are you able to tolerate a lot of fiber? I know that’s a no brainer. If lactulose isn’t working, I’m sure they’ve got you on a strict carb reduction.

So, your nutritionist will know best. If I were you, I would make a huge batch of soup with bone broth and veggies and eat/drink it for lunch and supper. That’s after starting the day with a bone broth, pea or chia protein powder shake for breakfast. Mix some green powder with that and you’ll get more nutrients.

In my opinion, that may clear your brain fog, AND you body out too. I cross my heart and promise that I ate JUST that strict when I was sick. I have a lot of recipes in the book. There is a lot of complex carbs like grains and pasta. I’m curious what your doctor and nutritionist say about them. Is there any gluten intolerance mixed in?

So glad we found each other, and on a day when I was working on the site. Keep me posted.

  2. Hi there,

Your story is an inspiration to me. I believe I might have idiopathic portal hypertension, have been to the ER three times with various symptoms and am waiting for an EGD next Friday. I’m scared, but truly believe in the healing power of faith and food.

Is there anything you know of that I could be doing right away to help? I already don’t do a lot of sugar, no gluten, and aim for 9 servings of fruit/veggies a day.

    Thanks for your time.

    1. Allyson,

I’m hoping that all went well with your egd. I also believe in the power of healing and faith. I pray every single day for my readers. Always have and always will believe that you are covered by an umbrella of healing.
It sounds like you are doing everything right. It’s hard to drop gluten. Have they staged your liver? Let me know. All will be well.

      Xoxo Karen

  3. Karen
The Nash support site Admin suggested you for diet and menus
Can you share that info I need some guidance in food and the brands suggested on protein powders etc
    Thank you soo much

    1. I’m so glad you found the site and hope that this gives you some helpful ideas. I posted as many recipes as I could and then ran out of space.

Everything, and I mean 60,000 words are in my ebook. It was an easy way for me to make it all accessible.

I’m going to go over the the “Start Here” checkered flag and double check, but I think all the posts about shakes and diet are listed in one category. I had a lot of brain fog while writing, but know that diet kept my brain clear and body strong.

I’m sorry that we had to meet, because that means you’re struggling with liver disease, just like I have. I send all my love and hopes for a healthier future with liver loving foods! Will you keep me posted about how easy you found your way around the site? Let me know what recipes work for you!

  4. Hi Karen! Glad I found you here! We are friends on FB, and you helped me many times when I struggled with curing my Hep C. I can’t wait to get your book as I have a fatty liver. Not bad yet, but it does cause quite a bit of brain fog and depression. Thank you for all you do for us xoxo

    1. Hey Lady! Good to see you on here!!

The depression and brain fog make it hard. In some ways, we can get so confused and get down and out. I hope that sticking with the lighter side of life and hanging with our FB family is helpful. We pull each other out all the time. Please email me soon about the book! I look forward to hearing from you.

  5. I was recently diagnosed with hep c and cirrhosis and is still trying to figure out what they both are. I would appreciate if I can get some help with what I can do to promote a healthy lifestyle as far as what I should eat that is inexpensive, do to my limited budget and also if anybody knows if I am eligible for social security benefits. Thank you

    1. Miquel,

I’m a blog about Social Security benefits because you are not the first to ask. If you click the black and white checkered flag, you can find a list of all my blogs. Scroll down til you find the topics you want to know about. Another thing you can do is go to hepatitisc.net and look at the community of friends who hang out there. If you have facebook, you can come to a private page. I’ve written about just about everything.
      1. Get treatment.
      2. The cirrhosis may improve with time after you get rid of the virus.
      3. Eat simple home made meals like soup, protein shakes, and veggies. No eating out so much. It’s too salty, more expensive, and burdens your liver.
I hope this helps and tides you over. Ask your doctor about the SSI and I’ll get a blog on soon about that. Ok my friend?

    1. John, I’m so glad that you stopped by and found the encouragement you needed for fatty liver and alcohol. SUPER Happy that you’re finding the answers you need. Of course, by working with a doctor, you’re so wise.

You might enjoy my newest blog about how my dad quit drinking and reversed his cirrhosis. He lived for many years! Please stay in touch about your progress and let me know how I can help.

      All my best,
