Hepatitis C Know More -Dr. Howard Koh is recommending Baby Boomers to Get Tested for Hepatitis C  is making recommendations that all Baby Boomers get a simple test for Hepatitis C. Millions of people have the HCV and are unaware. Meanwhile, it is doing damage to their liver. This short video clip was produced to promote awareness. I am putting it on my blog to test a new way to inset Youtube and Videos!

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that more than 75% of adults with Hepatitis C are baby boomers. Baby boomers are people born from 1945 through 1965. Most of them don’t know they are infected.

 I am one of those people who was never tested during my annual physical. I remember having elevated liver enzymes about 10 years ago, but they went back to normal. By the time the symptoms or side effects of liver disease show up, the liver may already have suffered severe damage.

I never dreamed of becoming a Hepatitis C advocate. It was not on my bucket list. Now that I have beat the virus with triple therapy treatment, helping others to get tested, treated, and on the road to recovery is a major aim in my life. There is no more NASH, it will be MASH, NAFLD becomes MASLD, MetALD is a new term, and SLD is the overarching term for steatosis.

Every organ transplant recipient and caregiver understands the journey: it is a marathon, not a sprint, and while the medical teams are brilliant, the emotional and logistical toll can feel isolating. I was actually making plans to purchase a rental property and run a non-profit for patients post-transplant when Lorrinda called me. She had a different vision. Dr. Thomas Starzl: Father of Transplantation and TRIO – I learned of this while preparing a presentation for The AASLD Liver Meeting. Lorrinda Gray Davis, who is the founder of Oklahoma’s TRIO Chapter just told me this week. We started our chapter with me as her first VEEP because we saw the need. I had literally no real support post transplant. During COVID, she went to work and the rest is history. Now she is president of TRIO International. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
